GlassWire is a lot more than just a great firewall. The free firewall software monitors your network in an easy to understand way, watches for network related threats, and it lets you know any time something new on your computer is connecting to the Internet.
The free version of GlassWire is awesome, but the Pro version has a lot of extra features including the ability to see who is on your WiFi network, Allow/Deny new connections, and see when something on your PC tries to use your Mic or Webcam potentially spying on you.
Glasswire is a lot of things inside a very good looking tool with very large statistics feature but it is not a firewall as you can only do a basic per application network on/off switch, no way to define any rule (at least last time I tried it).
Thanks for the comment. I totally agree with you if you look at firewall software such as Zone Alarm or Comodo, where it’s rule based ,but more difficult for the average user to configure. What I like about GlassWire is the massive features that comes with it and it’s easily readable for anyone. And still provides you the necessary firewall options such as network monitoring / allowed connections.
Glasswire has a lot of very interesting features and a very beautiful interface, but I still prefer SoftPerfect NetworX freeware application I use for years whenever it is not as nice nor full featured as Glasswire (it only display general and per-app traffic counters) and for the firewall feature I use the integrated ESET Firewall (many Anti-Virus also provide Firewall feature).
But I still think Glasswire cannot be qualified as a firewall but rather as a basic “app network blocker/kill-switch”
I personally haven’t tried SoftPerfect Networx before. Will definitely have a look at that and compare the two. Yes , built-in AV firewall is still the most valuable when protecting ones PC. Thanks for your input.
